In this video of a panel discussion at a recent Centre for International Finance and Regulation Workshop, FSI Review committee member Kevin Davis, APRA Chair Wayne Byres and ASIC Deputy Chair Peter Kell discuss the report’s recommendations relating to the regulatory system.
Whilst APRA and ASIC broadly agreed with the FSI reform recommendations they highlighted some areas for further discussion and the need for more details.
Mr Davis introduced the session and identified proposals that were rejected by the Inquiry and why.
Mr Byres discussed the need to balance regulator independence with accountability, as well as competition and stability.
Mr Kell discussed the proposed ASIC product intervention power.
