Revised ACCC advertising and selling guide

The ACCC has released a revised Advertising and selling guide which provides an overview of the rights and obligations that apply to businesses when promoting and selling their products and services. The revised Advertising Guide provides examples of conduct that is likely to breach the Australian Consumer Law and practical tips for advertising and selling.

It discusses issues arising from new technology including advertising through search engines and other online ads, social media and moderation and online review platforms.

It also addresses:
• ‘was/now’ or ‘strike through’ pricing
• reviews and testimonials
• online group buying
• environmental and organic merits
• country and place of origin.
