The Australian Payments Clearing Association has published a Consultation Paper on the future direction of cheques in Australia as a result of the growing use of electronic payment methods for non-cash payments.

According to APCA cheques run the risk of becoming an expensive and specialised or niche form of payment.

APCA is seeking comments from cheque issuers and users and other payments system participants.
