The Council of Financial Regulators (CFR) has released for consultation an issues paper on small and medium-sized banks.
The CFR, in consultation with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), has been asked by the Government to consider and report to the Government on options to improve competition for small and medium-sized banks.
The issues paper discusses the role and scale of small and medium-sized banks in Australia, proportionality in regulation, funding, and challenges to market entry and scaling.
In particular, the Issues Paper seeks views on the proportionality of regulation and the balance between financial stability, competition, innovation, and fairness.
