Queensland has had a Whistleblowers Protection Act dealing with unlawful, negligent or improper conduct affecting the state’s public sector since 1994.
The Whistleblowers (Disclosure to Member of Parliament) Amendment Bill 2006 has been introduced into Queensland Parliament.
If passed, it will allow a public officer to make a public interest disclosure to a member of the Legislative Assembly who may refer it to the appropriate public sector entity. The member has no role in investigating the disclosure.
