Parliament prorogued : Bills lapse

Pursuant to proclamation by the Governor-General, Parliament will be prorogued from 5.00 p.m. on Friday 15 April 2016 until the opening of a new session of Parliament at 9.30 a.m. on Monday 18 April 2016.

The effect of prorogation is that Bills on the Notice paper will lapse but can be restored (if the Government’s principal business is concluded).

Bills that have lapsed include:

  • Corporations Amendment (Crowd-sourced Funding) Bill 2015
  • Corporations Amendment (Life Insurance Remuneration Arrangements) Bill 2016
  • Tax and Superannuation Laws Amendment (2016 Measures No. 1) Bill 2016

It is yet to be determined whether a double dissolution election will be held.
