Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer
Affairs, Chris Bowen, has announced Mr Pat Walker as the Rudd
Government’s nominee for the new Petrol Commissioner.
The full-time commissioner will be predominantly be responsible for
overseeing the ACCC’s monitoring of the fuel prices in Australia as
well as providing an annual report on the ACCC’s findings.
The government is continuing to look seriously at the options raised
by the ACCC’s report on petrol prices, including measures
to increase retail price transparency.
The proposed appointment of Mr Walker as an ACCC Commissioner is
subject to the approval of the Governor‑General and requires acceptance
of at least four States and Territories.
