The Commonwealth Government has confirmed its commitment to abolishing the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and replace it with a National Centre for Excellence, to represent the interests of charities and not-for-profit agencies.
The Centre will support the sector’s ability to self-manage. Minister Andrews will consult on the establishment of the NCE and associated issues to ensure a smooth transition.
It appears that charities and not-for-profits will revert to state-based regulation, if they are not registered as companies.
