On a recent beach walk in North Queensland I was reminded that “legal” drafting when writing rules does not always make effective communication.

Walking further along I saw a sign with images which included the following graphics

Which is the most effective? The second sign does not include the qualifications of the first sign but quickly makes an important potentially life saving point.

The context of the communication always needs to be considered.
