Communicating compliance

One of the indicators of an organisation’s compliance culture is how it communicates the importance of compliance to employees.

You know that implementing any procedure change in your organisation requires a lot of communication: documenting the change, explaining why the change has been made, explaining what has changed and explaining the new procedure. Compliance with the new procedure has to be monitored and followed up. Changes may have to be made and those changes need to be communicated and documented. And the change has to be incorporated in induction training.

The same procedure is critical for regulatory compliance changes. Judging by the recent changes to consumer guarantees and the introduction of the Personal Property Securities Register, the rule is: too much communication is never enough. Don’t assume anything.
